
The mayor of Sheboygan has been honored for his commitment to land and water conservation.
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities initiative has recognized Mayor Ryan Sorenson as the 2025 Champion of Conservation.
Mayor Sorenson received the distinction during Lake Michigan Day at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum.
The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative is a bi-national organization comprised of Mayors from municipalities in the U.S. and Canada whose populations and economies rely on the Great Lakes.
The group works in collaboration with one another and other conservation groups in order to advance the restoration and protection of the Great Lakes.
When addressing this award, the organization stated, “Mayor Sorenson’s passion for protecting the Great Lakes and his dedication to bringing people together to tackle tough challenges have made a real difference, not just in Sheboygan, but across our region.”
Mayor Sorenson has played a pivotal role in various coastal conservation projects in the City, including recently acquiring federal funding with the help of the Cities Initiative to improve the Northern Bluffs Shoreline in Sheboygan.
