The Sheboygan Film Festival is set to open with the exploration of a beloved actor who is “very big in Sheboygan.”
Organizers for the festival have announced that its opening night film will be John Candy: I Like Me on October 2nd.
The film comes from director Colin Hanks, son of Tom Hanks, who shared the screen with Candy in multiple films, and producer and lifelong Candy fan Ryan Reynolds.
John Candy: I Like Me explores the life of the Canadian actor and comedian, taking an in-depth look at his life both on- and off-camera.
It will also give viewers a look at never-before-seen home videos of Candy, along with intimate access to his family and recollections from people who called him a friend and colleague prior to his unexpected death from a heart attack in 1994.
The name of the film also comes as an homage to one of Candy’s most iconic roles as Del Griffith in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.
However, Candy became a fan favorite amongst Sheboyganites for his appearance in Home Alone, where he namedropped Sheboygan in the Christmas classic.
Tickets to the opening night of the film festival, individual tickets, and festival passes are now available and can be purchased online by visiting sheboyganfilmfest.com.
