A pair of bills brought to life by an Eastern Wisconsin Senator have been signed into law.
Governor Tony Evers gave his final approval of Senator Andre Jacque’s Patient Privacy Protection Act and his supporting public safety in campground measure.
The first measure requires hospitals to obtain explicit, written consent from female patients before medical students can perform pelvic examinations while the patient is under anesthesia or unconscious.
Sen. Jacque said of the Patient Privacy Protection Act, which passed both houses unanimously, “Requiring specific consent before conducting these exams is not only about patient rights, but also about compassionate, trauma-informed care.”
The second bill clarified that campground guests in Wisconsin are not tenants under landlord-tenant law, and that law enforcement may assist in their removal when necessary.
Sen. Jacque noted, “This law ensures that when serious issues arise—such as harassment, threats to guests, or refusal to vacate—owners can rely on local law enforcement for help, just as they could at a hotel or tavern.”
