Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu is highlighting the child care aspects of the 2025-2027 biennial budget.
In his weekly newsletter, the Oostburg Republican said that the budget will “stabilize Wisconsin’s child care industry, reduce costs, and create new slots without making pandemic-era handouts to providers permanent.”
Beginning in the second year of the biennium, child care providers and parents will be able to participate in the Elementary School Readiness Program.
This community-based 4K program is modeled after the successful Wisconsin Parental School Choice Program.
Additionally, investments in the budget will increase Wisconsin Shares payments to the 75th percentile of the market rate, and co-pays will be waived for families up to 100% of the federal poverty line.
Sen. LeMahieu added, “Overall, these prudent investments will stabilize the existing child care industry while creating new slots and lowering costs for working families.”
