A Manitowoc man was arrested for driving while intoxicated over the weekend.
An officer was on patrol on South 10th Street at 1:20 Sunday morning, and while approaching Washington Street from the north, observed a vehicle squeal its tires while turning onto Washington.
When the officer turned to follow the vehicle, they noted that the suspect vehicle had sped off to the point that it was several blocks away.
The officer sped up to follow the vehicle and turned on the squad car lights, but the driver kept going, eventually stopping in front of a home in the 600 block of South 20th Street.
A woman immediately exited the passenger side door, claiming the driver was speeding because he had to use the restroom, and that he was driving because she was too impaired to do so.
The woman was quickly identified by the officer, as they had responded to a call at the residence roughly one month prior.
The driver, who initially gave a false name, was given a field sobriety test and an evidentiary blood raw before being arrested on charges of OWI, his third offense, Felony Bail Jumping, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
