A Two Rivers man will spend more than a decade in prison for stabbing someone over a divorce.
63-year-old Calvin Eis was sentenced to 12 years in prison, followed by *15 years of extended supervision.
During sentencing, District Attorney Jacalyn LeBre read a statement from the victim while Eis’s attorney also read a statement from the suspect.
Eis is required to undergo a mental health assessment and not have any contact with the victim or anyone under the age of 18.
The 63-year-old was arrested at a home in the Town of Two Rivers in July last year after law enforcement got a call about a woman who was stabbed.
A criminal complaint states that Eis and the victim were arguing before the fight was broken up.
Eis then walked into the home before returning with a knife, stabbing the victim at least three times.
He also stabbed himself in the abdomen multiple times.
When asked why, the suspect told law enforcement it was because he didn’t want to get divorced from the victim and that a weight loss drug was affecting him mentally.
The complaint also says a bartender told police that Eis threatened to stab the victim before, saying it would be a “murder/suicide.”
Eis was found guilty due to a no-contest plea on a charge of attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide back in May. Other charges, including substantial battery, strangulation and suffocation, and possession of drugs, were dismissed but read into the record.
*Correction: We’ve been notified by the Manitowoc County Clerk of Courts Office that Eis received 15 years on extended supervision plus the 12 years of incarceration. We apologize for the error.
