With the calendar turning to August, harvesting season is upon many local farmers.
Along with the harvesting season comes a heightened presence of farm equipment on the roads and an increased need for safety.
The Sheboygan County Planning and Conservation Department is urging motorists within the county and all across Wisconsin to slow down and be patient when encountering farm equipment, as many travel under 25 MPH.
It is also important to keep a safe distance when behind a tractor or combine because such large equipment cannot come to a stop quickly.
Equipment may swing wide or make unexpected turns, so it is also imperative to watch for any turn signals and to only pass equipment when it is both safe and legal to do so.
With high rainfall and humidity over the growing season, corn growth has been substantial throughout the area, meaning that more tractors may be hitting the roads than in previous years.
With harvesting season picking up, practicing these tips will keep you, other motorists, and farmers safe on Wisconsin roads.
