A local soccer club is continuing to grow and needs some more space.
The Manitowoc Futbol Club, formerly known as Goalgetters, issued a request to the city to use the property at 2700 Michigan Avenue to play the most popular sport in the world.
In their request, the club noted that they have “400 kids participating and are outgrowing their soccer fields on Viebahn Street.”
The property, known as Evergreen Cemetery West, is located on the north side of Michigan Avenue, directly across from Manitou Park and the Manitou Park Boat Ramp.
Manitowoc Futbol Club would provide goals and paint lines for the fields as well as supplemental grass cutting as needed above and beyond the City’s general grass cutting schedule for this location.
Manitowoc Parks Planner Brock Wetenkamp has stated in a letter to the Public Infrastructure Committee, “City staff support the use of this space as long as an area is designated for parking and the use does not affect the existing trees.”
The committee will review the proposal at its meeting in the Council Chambers at 5:30 this evening.
