The City of Two Rivers Fire Department has officially announced the launch of a new program.
Their Personal Watercraft (PWC) Rescue Program is a new initiative resulting directly from the 2024 City of Two Rivers Water Rescue Needs Assessment, which identified the need to enhance response capabilities along Lake Michigan, as well as the East and West Twin Rivers.
The PWC team is comprised of specially selected firefighter-paramedics and police officers who passed tests as part of a competitive selection process.
Fire Chief Dave Murack says the program includes a new Yamaha jet ski that was modified for surf rescue.
The department also fosters regional collaboration with groups such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Manitowoc Fire Rescue, and the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.
Funding for the PWC program came through a combination of city capital improvement funds, grants, and community donations.
