The victim in a fatal car crash in Plymouth over the weekend has been identified.
Lakeland University has shared that the 80-year-old man who lost his life in the accident that occurred on Highway 23 on Friday (August 1st) was Stephen Gould, President Emeritus at the school.
The university added that the 82-year-old woman involved, who sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, was Susan Gould, Stephen’s wife and a former Lakeland registrar.
At this time, the third individual, a 45-year-old Sheboygan man who sustained minor injuries, remains unidentified.
Following the crash, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the accident occurred on Highway 23 in Plymouth while the Gould’s vehicle attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Pleasant View Road.
Stephen served as Lakeland President for 14 years from 1998 to 2012, and is seen as a driving force behind the enormous growth the university enjoyed during that time.
After his retirement, the Lakeland Board of Trustees named him both a Professor and President Emeritus, and in 2019, South Hall was named the Stephen A. Gould Hall in honor of his many contributions to the university.
