A man charged with his 5th OWI is choosing to stay in jail.
40-year-old Edwin D. Selmon was given a $2,500 recognizance bond by Court Commissioner Patricia Koppa on his 5th OWI and a charge of Obstructing an Officer; however, the Clerk of Courts Office is reporting that he has chosen to not sign the recognizance bond.
Therefore, he will remain in custody at the Manitowoc County Jail until he changes his mind.
An officer was on patrol when he spotted a Selmon behind the wheel, whom the officer knew had a revoked driver’s license.
A traffic stop was initiated near the intersection of Calumet and Grand Avenues, but Selman kept driving, eventually pulling into the Arby’s parking lot on Harbortown Lane.
While he denied consuming any alcohol, Selman failed a field sobriety test and was taken to a local hospital for an evidentiary blood draw.
As a part of his bond, Selman was ordered not to operate a motor vehicle and to maintain absolute sobriety.
He is due back in court on September 29th for his initial appearance in Branch 4.
