A woman charged with 1st-degree reckless injury with use of a dangerous weapon is not competent to stand trial right now.
That was the ruling from Manitowoc County Judge Jerilyn Dietz for 48-year-old Blanca Perez-Hernandez, who had a competency hearing in court today (July 29th).
Psychologist Ana Garcia was asked questions by Assistant District Attorney Jordan Feest about the 48-year-old’s mental state and if she knew what was going on.
According to her testimony, Garcia said Perez-Hernandez could not comprehend what was happening, saying statements were disorganized.
Garcia also told the court she never got a direct answer to whether the 48-year-old suspect understood the charges against her and that Perez-Hernandez started singing during questioning.
The psychiatrist said that with treatment, Perez-Hernandez could return to court at a later date.
Judge Dietz agreed and ruled that she receive treatment through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
A review hearing has been set for October 23rd.
Perez-Hernandez was arrested in January after trying to steal license plates off of cars in Manitowoc.
When confronted by the owners, she pulled out a knife and slashed one person before trying to attack another.
Manitowoc Police say she told them the “Saint of Death” had gifted her all the cars in the trailer park and all the cars in the world.
