Two people are facing charges after attempting to sell the tires off of a stolen vehicle.
Manitowoc Police were called at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday (July 26th) by employees of Hometown Auto Exchange LLC who believed they were on their way to purchase the tires that were on a 2005 Chevrolet 2500, which had been stolen from the company parking lot the day before.
The two suspects had been at the business on Friday to purchase a vehicle, when the salesman inadvertently dropped the keys to the stolen truck in the suspect’s vehicle.
The sale was set to be made in the Meijer parking lot, and an officer in an undercover vehicle parked nearby to witness the sale.
Once the tires were confirmed to have come off the stolen truck, a 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were detained.
The younger man quickly admitted to taking the truck and had stored it at his father’s residence.
The older suspect confirmed the story, and both were placed in handcuffs as they led police to the property where it was being held.
The younger man apologized to the Hometown Auto Exchange employees and offered to pay for any damages to the vehicle, which the employees accepted.
Both men were charged with Receiving Stolen Property.
