The City of Sheboygan is set to discuss recent crime trends throughout the community.
At the Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee meeting set for tomorrow (July 29th), Police Chief Kurt Zemple will present the Police Department’s quarterly report.
This data includes crimes, offenses, or traffic violation numbers between April 1st and June 30th.
As shown in the report, crimes against persons have shown a favorable decrease compared to this time last year, with both forcible sex offenses and all manslaughter numbers down.
However, crimes against property continue a trend from quarter one, increasing compared to 2024.
In Chief Zemple’s report, he notes that while the numbers are up from last year, they remain lower than years prior.
This increase includes robbery, motor vehicle theft, theft or larceny, which have all increased in the same time period in 2024.
Additionally, while traffic stops are up this year, accident investigations as well as traffic arrests are down this year.
Zemple has attributed the increase in traffic stops to a department-wide prioritization of targeted traffic enforcement.
This includes previous attempts to crack down on rolling stops, speeding in certain areas, and tailgating.
A full breakdown of the crime numbers in Sheboygan through quarter two can be found in the Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee meeting agenda.
