A murder suspect in Green Bay has been sentenced after accepting a plea deal.
Court documents show that 25-year-old Michael L. Putala was in a Brown County courtroom on Wednesday (July 23rd) for a sentencing hearing after being convicted of Second-Degree Reckless Homicide in April.
Originally charged with one count of First-Degree Reckless Homicide and First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, a plea deal was struck between Putala and the court, which saw him receive a reduced charge and sentencing.
At his hearing this week, the 25-year-old was ordered to spend just five years in prison, followed by seven years of extended supervision.
Putala turned himself in to the Green Bay Police Department on July 15th, 2023, after an unidentified man was shot and killed in the 1100 block of Cass Street.
WBAY reports that Putala got into an altercation with another group of people on the night of July 14th, 2023.
The altercation escalated, and Putala attempted to leave the scene but admitted to shooting a gun from the passenger seat of a vehicle when the other group pulled up next to him.
Those shots into the other vehicle were determined to be the cause of death for the unidentified 24-year-old victim.
