Wisconsin’s two-term democratic governor is not running for another term.
In a video message, Governor Tony Evers announced that he has decided not to run for a third term, ending his fifty years in public service.
The Plymouth native says that when he ran for governor back in 2017, he would “always work to do the right thing, that I’d always give it to you straight, and that I’d always try to be a governor for all of Wisconsin.”
Evers continues to say that for the last six years, it has been an honor of his life to be able to give back to the state that raised him.
Democratic Party Chairman Devin Remiker, a native of Two Rivers, called Evers one of the most successful governors in state history.
He goes on to say, “Governor Evers shut the door on the Scott Walker era forever, stopping the Wisconsin GOP’s war against workers’ rights and working families.”
And ever since he started this next chapter for Wisconsin, Evers has invested in a vision that would help elect Wisconsinites to office who actually look out for their communities.
As of now, only two Republicans have announced their candidacy for governor.
They are Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and Whitefish Bay area Businessman Bill Berrian.
No Democrats have announced their run.
