The body of a Hortonville woman who went missing in La Crosse has been located.
The La Crosse Chief of Police, Shawn Kudron, has said that 22-year-old Eliotte Heinz’s body was located across the state border in Minnesota yesterday (July 23rd) at approximately 10:30 a.m.
La Crosse PD was notified by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office that Heinz’s body had been recovered from the Mississippi River near Brownsville, Minnesota, roughly 15 miles from where she was last seen.
Authorities in La Crosse continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death; however, they now await the results of her autopsy to determine an official cause of death.
Wishing the search had ended differently, Chief Kudron said, “Our thoughts are with Eliotte’s family, friends, and all those who knew Eliotte. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from so many within the La Crosse community, the State of Wisconsin, and nationally to locate Eliotte.”
Heinz was a student at Viterbo University in La Crosse and a graduate from Hortonville High School.
