Render of proposed home for Northern Lights Subdivision
Housing options will officially be going in at the former Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center site.
On Monday (July 21st), Sheboygan’s Common Council authorized entering into a Tax Incremental District Development Agreement (TID) with North Sixth Seventh, LLC to construct 21 single-family homes at the former hospital site.
The motion was passed via a 6-2 vote, with Alders Susie Boorse and Grazia Parrella being the only dissenting votes.
The housing development will be known as the Northern Lights Subdivision, spanning across the portion of land the city owns following the relocation of the hospital.
The proposed homes would range from 1,500 to 1,800 square feet while costing buyers approximately $400,000 and feature three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a side-loaded two-car garage.
While generally agreed upon that housing options are a must, many, including members of the council, have expressed the belief that 21 homes is not dense enough for the 7.5-acre plot.
However, now that the housing project has reached full approval, the City will begin on sewer, gas, and other utility work to ready the land for construction.
