Two Eastern Wisconsin legislators are looking to expand the veteran ID eligibility rules in Wisconsin.
Senator Andre Jacque and Assemblyman Shae Sortwell have joined forces with Senator Brad Plaff and Representatives Ben Franklin and Christine Sinicki on the measure.
All 50 states now offer a military veteran designation that can be printed on state-issued driver’s licenses or IDs.
Wisconsin’s veterans’ designation was first implemented five years ago and has quickly become popular as an easy way for veterans to demonstrate proof of their military service without having to carry around their DD-214 form or other documents with sensitive personal information.
This bill would expand eligibility for the veterans’ identifier to include any former member of the Guard and Reserve who also meets the eligibility requirements for a veterans’ home loan established by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Sen. Jacque also noted that it would ensure “the State of Wisconsin recognizes every man and woman who has worn the uniform in service to our state and nation.”
