The Wisconsin DNR is reminding children to be safe on ATVs and UTVs.
Lieutenant Jacob Holsclaw says the number of youths on the outdoor recreational vehicles continues to grow, and so does the importance of property training.
So far this year, 21 people have been killed in ATV/UTV-related crashes, usually due to passengers and drivers not wearing seatbelts or helmets.
Alcohol and speed were also factors.
Holsclaw informs riders that helmets are required by law for those under 18 and that the vehicles are typically designed for only one person.
Anyone under the age of 12 who rides an ATV must also complete an ATV safety course.
