Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc is refuting a letter from U.S. Senate Democrats that placed them on a list of at-risk hospitals.
The letter mentioned three hospitals in Wisconsin, including MCSH Oakridge in Osseo, Aspirus Stanley Hospital in Stanley, and Holy Family Memorial.
In a statement, Froedtert Interim President of Northeast Markets Brian Graf said, “While hospital operations are incredibly complex, the list was based on only two data points, creating an incomplete picture.”
It is also worth noting that additional funding to assist rural hospitals was later added and included in the final version of the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Graf finishes by saying that Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital is open and fulfilling its mission to provide services that help individuals and our communities achieve healthier lives.
The hospital is still reviewing the final version of the bill, as well as the funds in the 2025-2027 Wisconsin state budget, to better understand the implications for the health system.
Democrats have been pushing back on the One Big Beautiful Bill, saying it will not only hurt rural hospitals, but also those who are on Medicaid, since the bill includes cuts.
Democrats say it includes $500 billion in Medicaid cuts and reduces more than $1 trillion in funding for the Affordable Care Act.
In an interview on the WCUB Breakfast Club, Congressman Glenn Grothman, who represents Manitowoc County in the U.S. House of Representatives, says the bill won’t hurt recipients on Medicaid, but is just ensuring that those who are able to work and earn from the federal program have to.
