A Sheboygan native has once again reached the peak of her respective Para Climbing class.
Seneida Biendarra, a 2014 graduate of Sheboygan North High School, competed last month in the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Para Climbing World Cup in Innsbruck, Austria.
At the competition, Biendarra would take the gold medal in the women’s B2 division, for those who are considered to have severely impaired vision.
At the age of 17, the climber was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic disorder that results in tunnel vision before total loss of sight.
This is not Biendarra’s first time reaching the precipice of her respective sport, having won the 2023 Para Climbing National Championships in her debut as well as a silver medal at the 2023 Para Climbing World Championships and another gold at the IFSC Para Climbing World Cup in Salt Lake City the same year.
Now a Utah resident, Biendarra was also named the Adaptive Female Athlete of the Year by the Utah Sports Commission in 2024.
With the announcement last year that paraclimbing will make its debut at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, the Sheboygan native is now hoping to represent her country competing at the sport’s highest level with a bit of a home-field advantage.
