One day before his jury trial, a Greenfield man had his attempted murder charges dropped and refiled in Brown County.
31-year-old Jaharrie J. Jelks was scheduled to stand trial yesterday (July 15th) as he was facing charges of Attempted First-Degree Intentional Homicide, False Imprisonment, Disorderly Conduct, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
However, in an interesting move, prosecutors dismissed those charges without prejudice before refiling the exact same charges against him the very same day, much to the dismay of Jelks’ legal counsel.
At this time, it is uncertain why Brown County made the move to drop and refile the charges against the 31-year-old.
On December 8th, 2024, the Green Bay Police Department responded to a weapons call on Western Avenue, where they found a 56-year-old man with stab wounds.
On December 10th, Milwaukee Police apprehended Jelks for stealing a car, and his mugshot was then presented to the stabbing victim, who said with certainty that Jelks was the man who stabbed him.
Currently, no future court date for Jelks has been provided.
