A man was arrested at the Manitowoc Walmart after a false report of a gun.
Officers were called to the store at 7:00 Monday morning after dispatch received a call reporting an individual waving a gun inside a truck.
The caller quickly hung up and could not be contacted. Officers approached the truck believed to be involved, but learned the driver was not in possession of any weapons.
An officer went to the home of the caller, but there was no answer. Shortly after, the man answered his phone and told police he was shopping for jewelry inside Walmart.
The 44-year-old man was said to have the smell of alcohol on his breath, and claimed he was being followed by “two men with darker skin, possibly Hispanic.”
A review of security footage confirmed he was not being followed.
He was found to be on probation and refused to participate in a breathalyzer test.
The man was placed in handcuffs and was found to be in possession of a knife.
While being escorted to the squad car, the man reportedly sat on the ground and began yelling for help, asking passersby to call the “real police.”
He was arrested on a probation hold and on a charge of Carrying a Concealed Knife.
