Students in the Manitowoc Public School District will soon not be allowed to bring their cell phones to class.
Superintendent Lee Thennes explained on the WCUB Breakfast Club that the policy is specifically for high school students, who most likely have a cell phone in their possession.
He says they will need to stay away during class time.
“We want to take away the distractions for learning,” he noted. “We want all of our kids to be ready to learn. And cell phones can be a distraction in the classroom.”
Thennes says their ban will be like the Appleton School District’s, but MPSD could adopt another policy option from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
He also says it’s good for the district to get ahead before the school year.
