A northeastern Wisconsin nonprofit organization is getting ready for one of their biggest events of the year.
The Lakeshore Housing Coalition will be holding the Summer Point in Time Count (PIT) on the night of July 23rd into the morning of July 24th in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kewaunee, and Door Counties.
PIT Counts are a nationwide initiative to identify and better understand individuals and families who are living without permanent shelter.
The count not only helps organizations better understand the state of homelessness, but the Lakeshore Housing Coalition also says, “The data we collect determines how much funding we get, where support is needed most, and how we can advocate for long-term solutions.”
After the count is completed on the 24th, the Housing Coalition will be hosting a community outreach event at the Lakeshore Community Action Plan (CAP) in Manitowoc, located at 702 State Street.
Here, a free meal, hygiene kits, on-site health screenings, mental health and employment services, and much more will be offered.
However, the PIT Count is an event that cannot be done without the help of volunteers.
Those interested in volunteering to help out those experiencing homelessness can do so in any of the four participating counties from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. or from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Anyone looking to find more information on the event or looking to volunteer can do so by visiting the Lakeshore Housing Coalition Facebook page.
