The man who could be tasked to be the next Manitowoc County Treasurer says he is looking forward to seeing what happens.
The now former 4th District Supervisor Jim Brey tells Seehafernews.com that he believes he has the experience to do the job, serving on both the county board and the Manitowoc Common Council.
But there will be a learning curve.
Brey noted, “(I have) to learn some of the office practices and things like that and reports and stuff but I’m up for it and I’m looking forward to it.”
Brey says if he gets the new job, he would be taking in county property taxes and filing reports with the state of Wisconsin.
But the treasurer is also involved with property repossession.
Since County Board Chairman Tyler Martell announced the possible appointment of Brey, his county board seat is open.
“Consultation with our corporate council, I wanted to do to the right thing,” he explained. “I didn’t want any bad things going on or I guess the looks of criminal activity by myself staying on the county board and trying to get appointed to this position while I’m still on the county board. So, I have resigned from the county board.”
Brey says he also wants to serve the rest of his time on the Manitowoc Common Council, which is up for election in Spring 2026.
He mentioned, “When it comes to this December when nominations go out, I will make a decision whether I will decide to run again.”
The potential treasurer also explained that he’s ready to bring some stability to the job.
“I’m not going anywhere is what I’m trying to say,” he stated. “I think they’re looking for stability in the office and I’m looking to provide that.”
Martell tells Seehafernews.com that if Brey got full county board approval, the county would accept applications and appoint someone to the District 4 seat.
The board will vote on appointing Brey during their monthly meeting on Tuesday (July 15th).
