An Eastern Wisconsin Assemblyman is looking to limit the amount of taxpayer dollars that can be used to pay suspended judges.
Rep. Shae Sortwell has joined forces with fellow Republican Senator Cory Tomczyk of Mosinee to introduce the bill.
The duo specifically highlighted the case of Judge Hannah Dugan, who was suspended after allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant evade federal immigration authorities.
She is still being paid, despite the ongoing criminal proceedings, which Rep. Sortwell said means “The taxpayers will have to fund an extended vacation for her, while already paying for reserve judges filling in.”
He also called the bill important because “Judicial suspension policy needs to be proper and consistent to ensure taxpayer dollars are not being wasted.”
