
The Manitowoc County Health Department is offering free tick kits.
A post on their Facebook page states that the tick population is booming this year, which means more people are at risk for tick-borne illnesses.
Some illnesses include Lyme disease, spotted fever, and the Powassan Virus.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says not all ticks spread illness, and you won’t get sick from every tick bite.
However, it’s important to stay aware of the insect and learn how to prevent bites.
DHS advises wearing repellent on skin and clothing, as well as wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and always checking for ticks if you’ve been outside.
