Sheboygan’s lighthouse is up for sale, kind of.
The Sheboygan Breakwater Lighthouse was listed on the U.S. General Services Administration’s website on July 1st under the available lighthouse properties.
Under the listing, the lighthouse has been determined to be in excess of the needs of the Department of Homeland Security and the Coast Guard.
It continues to explain that the property is “being made available at no cost to eligible entities defined as federal agencies, state and local agencies, non-profit corporations, educational agencies, or community development organizations.”
These organizations would be required to use the lighthouse for educational, park, recreational, cultural, or historical preservation purposes.
In the event that the property is not transferred to a public body, it will be sold.
Any entity interested in acquiring the lighthouse on the shores of Lake Michigan is asked to submit a letter of interest to the U.S. General Services Administration within 60 days after September 1st.
