The City of Two Rivers has eliminated licensing requirements for message establishments since they’re already required at the state level.
Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley tells Seehafernews.com that a potential business owner reached out to him asking if they would need a license if they started a wellness business that included massage.
After looking into it, Buckley says the city did have a license requirement for message practitioners and establishments.
“I had no recollection of one ever coming before the city council,” he noted. “(I) contacted the city clerk. She had neither an application form nor any record of licenses. And it occurred to me, under the heading of are you pro-business or anti-business, do we really need this on the books?”
Buckley says the state already has training requirements and enforcement for licensed practitioners.
There is also already language in city law that prohibits illicit massage operations, meaning that Two Rivers Police can investigate incidents at a business.
The updated city ordinance now includes language stating that someone is not allowed to practice massage unless they meet the state’s requirements.
