A 1947 aircraft that was knocked down from a pedestal in front of the Manitowoc County Airport is now back in place.
Manitowoc EAA Chapter 383 Member Joshua Honey tells SeehaferNews.com that the RC-3 Seabee, the group has been working on fixing, has been put back on a recreated platform, just in time for the annual EAA AirVenture Show in Oshkosh.
The local EAA chapter, also known as the “Grumpy Ducks,” had been working since late last year to repair and repaint the historic aircraft brought from Alaska to Manitowoc by chapter founder Don Gruett.
With help from Manitowoc County Youth Aviation, the tail of the plane was straightened, the left wing was rebuilt, and the body was repainted in the original yellow and red colors.
To make sure the plane doesn’t fall over in the future, Honey says the county made some modifications to make sure a windstorm doesn’t blow the plane over like one did before.
He also tells Seehafernews.com that the organization is proud of the work they did to restore a piece of their history.
The local EAA chapter held a showcase in May to showcase the work they had done.
The plane is placed in the same location it was in before.
