The Two Rivers Police Department was busy during the 4th of July weekend.
In an update to the council last night (July 7th), Police Chief Ben Meinnert explained that, although there were many positive interactions with the public, officers had to make arrests and issue tickets.
Police were called 40 times to remove glass bottles, four times to remove fireworks, and 15 times to remove dogs on the beach.
Meinnert says there was also an incident involving an intoxicated individual where police had to use a Taser to subdue the man because he was resisting arrest and made threats to officers.
Outside of the 4th of July activities, Two Rivers Police were called to an overdose incident, and first responders’ quick actions saved that individual’s life.
Law enforcement was also called to a six-person fight with a possible firearm involved near the beach.
The gun was not real, but some people were taken to the Manitowoc County Jail.
Meinnert says on the plus side, officers were able to give out some toys to kids on July 4th.
