Increased bus fares are set to be discussed in the City of Sheboygan.
The City’s Transit Commission will meet today at 5:00 p.m., which will include a public hearing regarding proposed rate increases by Shoreline Metro, Sheboygan’s public transit provider.
This public hearing comes after a 30-day public comment period following the proposed increase by Shoreline Metro last month.
Student rates would be the only fare that remains unchanged, while all other fares, including day passes, month passes, and six-day passes, would see an increase of $0.15 to $2.00.
If approved, the new bus rates would take effect in January of next year.
Shoreline Metro has noted that these increases are seen as necessary to combat reduced funding, increased expenses, and the exhaustion of COVID relief funds.
Those who wish to make a comment regarding the proposed Shoreline Metro rate increases ahead of the public hearing are encouraged to contact the Transit Director at dmuench@shorelinemetro.com or attend tonight’s meeting.
