Two men were caught stealing items from the Manitowoc Piggly Wiggly.
An officer was dispatched to the store at 1339 North 8th Street at 6:15 Friday morning after a witness reported seeing a man take a bottle of alcohol.
The 19-year-old man and a female companion were seen outside of the store, and as the officer attempted to bring the man back to the store, he fled.
The woman claimed to have no knowledge of the theft. However, video surveillance showed her helping the man take the bottle.
The man was located near the tennis courts in Lincoln Park, drinking from the bottle.
He was taken into custody on charges of Misdemeanor Retail Theft, and Resisting an Officer, and was cited for Consuming Alcohol by an Underage Person, Possession of THC, and Trespassing.
Then, officers were called to the store at 7:30 Sunday evening after a witness saw a man enter the employee entrance of the store.
He then allegedly began taking items off the shelves where items were stored and then fled through the employee entrance.
A total of just shy of $40 worth of items were taken, including peanut butter, crackers, cookies, and cereal.
The 33-year-old man was seen walking near the Lincoln Park Zoo alpaca barn and was approached by multiple officers.
He ignored officers’ commands and resisted as they put him in handcuffs.
He was taken to the ground during the arrest, after which he complied with no further incident.
He is now facing charges of Misdemeanor Retail Theft, Resisting an Officer, and two counts of Felony Bail Jumping.
