One of Sheboygan County’s most beloved summer events returns this weekend after being cancelled last year.
The Ducktona 500 Family festival and Car Show will be held on Sunday (July 6th) at River Park in Sheboygan Falls, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
While Ducktona is a big deal every year, this year’s event will carry a little extra meaning after inclement weather and flooding caused the Sheboygan Falls Chamber-Main Street to cancel for the first time in its 36-year history.
Tammy Meyer, the Executive Director of Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street, spoke to SeehaferNews.com to explain just what Ducktona is.
She said, “It is a free, fun, family event. You’ve got the car show, you’ve got food, you’ve got merchandise vendors, you’ve got the huge kids zone, and live music. What more can you ask for?”
She also explained the event’s namesake duck race and what people can expect.
“It’s 4,500 ducks we drop into the Sheboygan River, and they go into a track and then into a funnel, and the first one wins $1,000. The whole event started when we became a Main Street community,” Meyer explained.
Ducktona also serves as the largest fundraising event for the Chamber-Main Street group, which felt the effects of last year’s cancellation.
While they and the community were able to persevere, Meyer said, “It was a hard hit. So, we’ve had to tighten our budget, which is fine; we’re happy to do that. But I would say that didn’t diminish any of our services, we still they great service to our members in our downtown.”
On Sunday, the car and antique boat show will run all day, while a pancake breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Live music will then begin at noon, featuring the Band Past Curfew before the duck race, which starts at 3:00 p.m.
Tickets for the duck race can be purchased before Ducktona and during the event right up until the race begins.
Tickets can be purchased beforehand by stopping in at the Sheboygan Falls Chamber-Main Street Office located at 504 Broadway Street.
