Many will be lighting off fireworks to celebrate Independence Day tonight, but a local healthcare organization is reminding everyone to be safe while doing so.
Dr. Angie Qualio with Emplify Health by Bellin Emergency Services says the best way to prevent injuries from fireworks is to leave it to the professionals. She suggests enjoying the “amazing fireworks displays” put on by trained professionals, calling it “by far the safest, and probably most entertaining, way to celebrate.”
But for those who do plan on lighting off their own, Dr. Qualio suggests making sure a sober adult is supervising the action.
There should also be a bucket of water for the expended fireworks, and a hose nearby incase of a fire.
Also, never look down the barrel of a firework or point them at another person.
That is like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun. She also suggested checking with local law enforcement or the municipality regarding ordinances regarding usage.
