Governor Tony Evers recently signed numerous bills into law, including one to help children who have been mistreated in Sheboygan County.
Among the six bills signed by Governor Evers yesterday (July 2nd) is Senate Bill 232, or 2025 Wisconsin Act 13, which modifies the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s (DOJ) child advocacy grant program.
These modifications added two grant awardees to the DOJ’s list, one of which is the Lakeshore Regional Child Advocacy Center in Sheboygan County.
This means that state funds will now be going directly to the county’s Lakeshore Regional Child Advocacy Center to, what the bill describes as, “enhance the multidisciplinary response to suspected child maltreatment.”
Additionally, Senate Bill 232 also increases the number of child advocacy centers across Wisconsin that are eligible to receive grant funding from the DOJ.
With the signing of this bill, Governor Evers has stated that the recently approved 2025-2027 state budget includes $2 million to fund the grants distributed by the DOJ throughout Wisconsin.
