Changes have been made within the Appleton Fire Department.
The Department has announced that, beginning yesterday (July 1st), they have begun providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) services on each of their front-line apparatus.
This means that the department will be able to provide improved emergency care to Appleton residents prior to the arrival of Gold Cross Ambulance, the city’s transporting EMS provider.
It is the department’s belief that this move will create a more integrated response with Gold Cross that will befit all individuals needing treatment.
Regarding the addition, Division Chief Ryan Homman said, “This isn’t about replacing ambulance care, it’s about enhancing it. We’re now better positioned to stabilize patients early and assist ambulance crews more effectively once they arrive.”
While Gold Cross will continue to handle EMS transport, the Fire Department’s paramedics will now be able to initiate more advanced care before the arrival of an ambulance, which could prove to be lifesaving.
