Manitowoc’s 19U American Legion baseball team had its championship game effort cut short due to rain yesterday (June 29th).
Manitowoc would fall in the rain-shortened championship game of the Marinette Firecracker Tournament to the Escanaba Cubs 5-0.
The scoreless outing for Manitowoc would end after five innings before inclement weather rolled in. It was a tough day at the plant for the team as left fielder Seth Gibeault earned Manitowoc’s only hit.
However, Sunday was a much better day on the diamond for Manitowoc’s 17u squad, which won both games of a doubleheader against Marinette.
Manitowoc would shut Marinette 13-0 in game one before winning game two by a score of 7-4.
Carter Neu shined on the day, going 3-4 at the plate in game one, collecting 3 RBI, before earning the win on the mound in game two, allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 6 batters.
The 17u squad now sits at 10-2 on the season and will take on Sheboygan’s American Legion 17u squad later today (June 30th).
With their loss yesterday, the 19u squad is now 10-4.
They will have the day off today before hosting Bay Port tomorrow evening (July 1st).
