Two Eastern Wisconsin legislators are among a group reintroducing a tax relief bill.
The Stillborn Child Recognition and Support Act looks to provide equitable treatment and targeted tax relief to Wisconsin parents who experience the heartbreaking loss of a stillborn child.
Senator Andre Jacque and Representative Lindee Brill have joined forces with two other Senators and six Assembly Representatives who have signed onto the measure.
The group notes that “Each year, approximately 350 Wisconsin families endure the trauma of stillbirth… These families face the same labor and delivery costs as any birth, but also take on additional and often unexpected expenses for funeral arrangements, counseling, and unpaid leave from work.”
The bill, if passed, would create a $2,000 refundable individual income tax credit for parents of a stillborn child.
The credit may be claimed for any birth in Wisconsin resulting in a stillbirth for which a fetal death report is required.
