The Manitowoc man who killed his cellmate has been sentenced.
A jury found 25-year-old Jackson Vogel guilty of 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide for the death of 19-year-old Micah Laureano at Green Bay Correctional Institution last year.
Brown County Circuit Judge Donald Zuidmulder sentenced Vogel to life in prison with no possibility for extended supervision.
Vogel, who was in prison for the attempted killing of his mother, admitted to killing Laureano because he was black and gay.
Ahead of his sentencing, he reportedly told the court, “I may not show remorse, I may not be able to understand emotion, I may not be able to understand remorse itself. That doesn’t mean that a person cannot be sorry for what they did at any point in time. Because I am sorry.”
