Starting next week, boaters will be reminded to help stop the spread of invasive plants and animals.
The Great Lakes Landing Blitz starts on Monday (June 30th) and continues through July 15th through the group Clean Boats, Clean Water and the Wisconsin DNR.
Watercraft inspectors across the state will work to educate the public about aquatic invasive species.
At the same time, thousands of boaters and anglers will be able to enjoy Wisconsin’s waters during the 4th of July.
The inspectors will be stepping up to greet landing visitors, demonstrate prevention steps for aquatic invasive species, and answer questions.
The first Landing Blitz was launched in 2008 and has since become an initiative that provides education efforts among all Great Lakes states and provinces.
Boaters are required by Wisconsin law to inspect their vehicles and trailers and remove all mud and attached aquatic plants and animals.
The Wisconsin DNR also reminds residents to never move plants or fish away from a waterbody and dispose of unwanted bait in the trash.
