The Wisconsin Supreme Court has ruled that Governor Tony Evers’ partial veto of a 2023 literacy funding bill violated the state constitution.
The decision, announced yesterday, found that Evers improperly attempted to redirect $50 million to the Department of Public Instruction, bypassing the Joint Finance Committee’s role as outlined in the legislation.
If the funds are not allocated by Monday, they will revert to the state’s general fund.
Republican leaders on the Joint Finance Committee say they intend to release the money.
