Following the U.S. bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities and a retaliatory strike against U.S. bases in Qatar, Senator Tammy Baldwin and others are taking action.
The Wisconsin Senator, along with fellow Democratic Senators Bernie Sanders, Peter Welch, Elizabeth Warren, Jeff Merkley, Chris Van Hollen, Ed Markey, and Tina Smith, has introduced the No War Against Iran Act.
As the name indicates, the measure would to prohibit the use of federal funds for any use of military force in or against Iran without specific Congressional authorization.
Sen. Baldwin said the “vast majority of Wisconsinites” don’t want to send American troops abroad, and called out President Donald Trump, who “got us into this situation by pulling out of the last deal, which would have restricted Iran’s nuclear program.”
She also noted, “No President, including Donald Trump, can start an all-out war without Congress signing off, and what Donald Trump did was frankly unconstitutional. The President should be laser-focused on diplomacy to reduce tensions and prevent our country from being launched into another conflict with no clear end in sight.”
