A Manitowoc County representative in the Assembly is praising a set of nuclear energy bills that are on their way to Governor Tony Evers.
Rep. Shae Sortwell joined forces with Rep. David Steffen and Senator Julian Bradley to author the bills, which they say have a goal of “positioning Wisconsin as a national leader in next-generation nuclear energy.”
The package includes legislation that directs the state to complete a nuclear siting study to identify potential communities ideal for nuclear power generation, establishes a nuclear power summit to position Wisconsin as a leader in the field, and declares formal support for nuclear development.
Rep. Steffen called them a “bold, strategic move for our state,” while Sen. Bradley noted that they are “about more than energy policy – they’re about Wisconsin’s future.”
Rep. Sortwell was also happy with the passage in the legislature, saying, “With this package, we’re preparing our grid for the future. The nuclear renaissance is here, and Wisconsin is ready to lead it.”
The package earned bipartisan support at every step of the legislative process and now need only a signature from the Governor to take effect.
