The City of Two Rivers Fire Department is reminding swimmers of the dangers of Lake Michigan following a recent rescue.
Police and fire were called to Neshotah Beach yesterday (June 23rd) for a water rescue.
A 22-year-old man was safely brought back to shore and later released due to the quick response from emergency personnel and cooperating agencies.
Captain Andrew Miller with the TRFD says that while the incident had a positive outcome, it comes as a reminder of the dangers of Lake Michigan.
Neshotah Beach doesn’t have lifeguards, so swimmers and visitors enter at their own risk.
Conditions on the lake can also change quickly, creating strong rip currents, high waves, and rapidly shifting weather conditions, which can pose a risk to even the most experienced swimmers.
Neshotah Beach does have life rings available and a newer Beach Alert System that provides real-time conditions updates throughout the day.
Miller finishes by saying that the Two Rivers Fire Department remains committed to public safety and encourages all residents and visitors to be mindful of these safety measures while enjoying the beach.
