A new K9 statue for the Manitowoc Police Department is finally going up.
The statue, named “Liberty,” is a tribute to the K9s the department has had and to remember the service that they gave.
Police Chief Nick Reimer explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program last week that a base is being installed for the statue, which will be located at the corner of 10th and Jay Streets.
Reimer reminded listeners that “Liberty” is “A bronze statue of basically a German Shepherd dog, a police K9 working dog. I think people will be taking pictures there when this is all done, and it will be a really nice treasure for the city to have.”
Reimer thanked everyone who donated to the statue’s cause.
The K9 Memorial Statue project was initiated in 2023 by former Assistant Police Chief Jason Freiboth before his retirement.
