A Ripon man has been charged after fleeing from authorities in Fond du Lac County over the weekend.
WBAY reports that the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls on Saturday (June 21st) at approximately 11:00 a.m. reporting a reckless driver on Highway 23 in the Village of Rosendale.
This included the driver running a red light at the intersection of Highways 23 and 26.
A Sheriff’s Deputy and a trooper with the Wisconsin State Patrol witnessed the driver, a 49-year-old Ripon man, driving at a high rate of speed as he neared the City of Fond du Lac.
The 49-year-old would ignore law enforcement’s attempts to pull him over and continue on to Interstate 41.
While traveling north on I-41, the driver struck a guardrail, turned around, and began heading south in the northbound lane.
Attempts to box in the vehicle would be unsuccessful, causing the deputy to use his cruiser to push the driver’s vehicle into the ditch.
The suspect’s vehicle was disabled, and he would quickly be placed under arrest and treated for injuries.
The 49-year-old has been charged for Fleeing and Eluding an Officer, First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Hit and Run, and suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated.
The pursuit would last approximately five miles, resulting in minor injuries to the suspect and damage to two vehicles, including a police cruiser.
