
The Kiel Raiders fell to Edgewood of Madison in a WIAA Division 3 girls’ soccer state semifinal on Friday afternoon by a score of 2-0 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
The match was scoreless through regulation, with the Crusaders’ Somona Bever breaking the scoreless tie in the first overtime on a corner kick that curled inside the right post of the Kiel net.
Bever would add her 32nd goal of the year in the second extra ten-minute period to cap the scoring and send Edgewood into the Division Three championship on Saturday.
The Crusaders had 13 shots on goal to Kiel’s three, with Caroline Onderak getting the win for Edgewood. Mya Langenfeld took the loss for Kiel, which was making its fourth consecutive trip to state and looking to win its second state title in three years (2023 in Division Four).
The Crusaders will play Catholic Memorial of Waukesha for the Division Three championship on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. after defeating West Salem 4-0 in the other D-3 semifinal.
Meanwhile, Ozaukee/ Random Lake will play Xavier of Appleton for a Division Four Girls state soccer title Saturday (tomorrow) afternoon at 1:30 in Milwaukee.
